Bandung, (DN),- Railway based transportation has been rapidly evolved in term of technology and supporting policy. However, there are several gaps which need to be overcome. Collaboration between the industrial partner, research partner, and policy maker needs to be fostered. To initiate the partnership, NCSTT alongside with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and researcher from ITB held the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to prepare the platform draft on Industrial Development of Indonesian Railway Industry at Hotel Grand Tjokro, on August 15, 2018.
Railway industries are becoming the potential sector, as many railway constructions have been fully established in Indonesia, such as LRT, MRT, and urban railway inside and outside Java. In order to bring the railway technology to the full potential and impactful for the national power, some designing for the development of railway technology is being arranged, such as speed increasing to 160 kph.
In order to achieve the targeted speed increment, the synergy between the government, rail network authority, design construction company, and manufacturer as the platform executant are required. The industrial development will also in-line with the concept of industry 4.0 which involved several keys of technological component: Big data, cloud computing, IoT, Simulation, autonomous robots, etc.
Several technology components will also be persistently developed: railway carbody, bogie, electric railway propulsion system, braking system, and automation. There are many aspects which need to be considered in developing the aforementioned technology such as research and industrial readiness, market demand, market segmentation and last but not least, the supporting regulation.
To actualize the planned development for the better future of the railway industry, three aspects need to be considered such as industrial map, transparent and sustainable program, and also support from the government. Local standardization and human resource are also required to be fostered in parallel.***
