NCSTT, SBC, and TESTA pioneered the first ASEAN Battery and Electric Vehicle Technology Conference to mobilize the ecosystem and build a battery network in Southeast Asia.

Bali, (AN),- The first ASEAN Battery and Electric Vehicle Technology Conference (ABEVTC) was held in Nusa Dua, Bali. The conference was a collaboration between the Singapore Battery Consortium, the National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology (NCSTT) from Indonesia, the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA), and Hioki E.E Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer of testing and measurement equipment. The collaboration aimed to mobilize the ecosystem and strengthen partnerships among key players in the battery and electric vehicle (EV) sector in Southeast Asia. The three-day conference sought to create new opportunities, innovative ideas, and knowledge exchange among professionals, academics, and policymakers from ASEAN countries and to build an ASEAN community for collaboration in the future.

The most important agenda of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between six leading associations in the ASEAN region to build a battery network in Southeast Asia. The MoU also opened up opportunities for research and development collaboration in the field of electric batteries and jointly developing and promoting the ASEAN Battery Ecosystem, which will facilitate the growth of the battery industry in the region. The six associations committed to collaborating on developing and promoting the ASEAN Battery Ecosystem, encouraging networking and collaboration opportunities, research and development in battery technology, including safety, standards, and circular economics.

According to the founder of the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI), Indonesia has great potential in the battery industry, with abundant reserves of nickel, manganese, and other minerals needed for battery production. The collaboration will further enhance Indonesia's position as a key player in the regional battery market. The conference featured a roundtable discussion on decarbonization in ASEAN between leading regional academics in the battery and electrification field, as well as two panel discussions on technology exchange and circular economics in the battery industry.

The conference had keynote speeches from various representatives of leading companies in the Energy Storage System and electric vehicle industries. Overall, the conference aimed to create a dynamic ecosystem and strengthen partnerships among key players in the battery and EV sector in Southeast Asia, and facilitate the growth of the battery industry in the region through collaboration and knowledge exchange.

"We are looking forward and excited to collaborate with ASEAN institutions to develop and promote the ASEAN Battery Ecosystem as a significant step towards an integrated and sustainable transportation system in Indonesia. Our partnership will advance battery technology, safety, standards, and circular economy research to build a competitive transportation industry with strong national support. This will contribute to the success and growth of the region's energy storage industry." Said Dr. Leonardo Gunawan, NCSTT Director.
